Traveler Information: Toll Rates
Toll Rates
Florida’s Turnpike is a 460 mile system of user-financed toll roads (see System Descriptions and Maps), (http://www.floridasturnpike.com/about_system.cfm) that are constructed, operated and maintained through toll revenues collected from our customers. The toll rates are established on a per-mile and per-axle basis. Every vehicle pays a toll that is generally based on the distance of the trip and the vehicle’s number of axles. Customers have a choice on how to pay their tolls using either cash, SunPass or TOLL-BY-PLATE. These three types of payment options are described below:
- Customers can pay their toll with cash (U.S. Currency) on Turnpike facilities. Some locations have unattended plazas so we recommend having change available on your trip. Please refer to “Cash” toll rates.
- SunPass is the State’s pre-paid electronic toll program. SunPass customers have transponders which can be utilized on most toll roads in the state. SunPass is the preferred method to pay tolls and has the lowest toll rate. Please refer to the “SunPass” toll rate.
- TOLL-BY-PLATE is a new electronic toll system for customers who do not have SunPass on all-electronic facilities. TOLL-BY-PLATE will be implemented on the southern 47 miles of the Turnpike (Homestead Extension) in 2011.
Changes to Toll Rates:
Toll rates for Florida’s Turnpike System are set through a public notice process per Florida Statutes, and are adopted by rule. Whenever the Turnpike proposed changes to toll rates, such as a new interchange, a notice for public meeting is posted in the Florida Administrative Weekly.
