Florida's Turnpike is a 461 mile system of user-financed toll roads (see system description and maps) that are constructed, operated and maintained through toll revenues collected from our customers. The toll rates are established on a per-mile and per-axle basis. Every vehicle pays a toll that is generally based on the distance of the trip and the number of axles on the vehicle. Customers have a choice of how to pay their tolls using either cash, SunPass or TOLL-BY-PLATE. These three types of payment options are described below:

SPass Logo

SunPass is the State’s prepaid electronic toll program.  SunPass customers have transponders which can be used on all toll roads and most toll bridges in the state.  SunPass is the preferred method to pay tolls and has the lowest toll rate.  Please refer to the “SunPass” toll rate.

Cash Logo

Customers can pay their toll with cash (U.S. Currency) on most Turnpike facilities.  Some locations have unstaffed plazas so we recommend having change available on your trip.  Please refer to “Cash” toll rates when determining your toll rate.

TOLL-BY-PLATE is a new electronic toll payment option on all-electronic toll roads for customers who do not have SunPass transponders. Currently, TOLL-BY-PLATE is only available on the southern 47 miles of the Turnpike in Miami-Dade, on the Sawgrass Expressway in Broward County, on the I-4 Connector in Tampa, and on a portion of the Veterans Expressway (Hillsborough Avenue to Linebaugh Avenue) in the Tampa Bay area.
