Your well-being and whereabouts are important to your family, especially in the event of a serious motor vehicle accident. To help expedite communications between emergency personnel and the families of accident victims, the Department of Highway and Safety Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) has introduced D.A.V.I.D., the Driver and Vehicle Information database. D.A.V.I.D is a secure database used by most law enforcement agencies in the state of Florida to locate emergency contact information quickly.

D.A.V.I.D originated in response to a mother whose daughter was a victim of a motor vehicle accident. Unfortunately, law enforcement officials were unable to contact and identify family members until several hours after the incident. Due to the severity of the injuries, the daughter passed away before family members could be contacted.

In an effort to avert similar situations, the DHSMV urges all Florida drivers to input their emergency contact information into D.A.V.I.D.
