Left Lane Truck Restrictions In South Florida Have you noticed a smoother traffic flow on the Turnpike in south Florida lately? |

On the 40 mile stretch between Miami-Dade County's Golden Glades Interchange and the Lantana Toll Plaza (Mile Post 88), traveling motorists now benefit from a new state law. A "No Trucks Left Lane" restriction was enacted prohibiting commercial trucks from traveling in the left lanes on this portion of the Turnpike. Drivers now have three travel lanes to choose from, with the far left lane free and clear of commercial vehicles. |

The "No Trucks Left Lane" restriction is an expansion of the successful pilot program originally executed on the Homestead Extension of Florida's Turnpike (HEFT) in the spring of 2005. Since this restriction has been in effect, it has received positive reviews from both commercial and commuter motorists alike. "You can see how well it's worked on other highways. When they didn't have it, there were a lot of problems," says Lt. Roger Reyes of the Florida Highway Patrol. |
This lane restriction is just one more step in Florida's Turnpike Enterprise's path to provide safety and convenience for its customers. Look for "No Trucks Left Lane," signage along the effected portions of the roadway. |
