Delivering SunPass Express Lanes Quickly |
| After only 12 weeks of construction, the first SunPass-only express lanes on Florida's Turnpike mainline opened to traffic in November 2007 at the Bird Road Toll Plaza in Miami-Dade County. The plaza was upgraded and converted into an open road tolling (ORT) plaza — no gates, no tollbooths and no need to slow down for drivers with SunPass. |  Bird Road Open Road Tolling |

SunPass-only express lanes soon followed at the Homestead toll plaza in Miami-Dade County and at the Cypress Creek Toll Plaza in Broward County, which opened to traffic ahead of schedule in December and January 2008. Work at the Lantana Toll Plaza in Palm Beach County was completed in April 2008.

| The newly-converted toll plazas allow motorists with SunPass to travel at highway speeds while their toll is collected via SunPass equipment overhead. This not only allows SunPass drivers to travel at highway speeds while paying their toll, but also helps improve traffic flow. Compared to a traditional SunPass-only lane, each new SunPass ORT lane will process an additional 800-plus vehicles per hour. |  New ORT Technology |
| Cash customers continue to pay at the remaining tollbooths, which are separated from the SunPass-only express lanes by a concrete barrier. As motorists approach the toll plazas, SunPass customers take the designated SunPass lanes to the left and center and cash customers take the designated cash lanes to the far right. Due to the barrier that separates the SunPass and cash lanes, drivers are not able to make last-minute lane changes. |
| Construction of SunPass-only express lanes are being fast-tracked due to the increase of SunPass participation on Florida's Turnpike. In an effort to serve our SunPass customers better, financial incentives are offered to the contractors to help expedite construction and provide customers with a more convenient driving experience. |
