Next time you are driving on Florida's Turnpike, take comfort that Florida's Turnpike is ranked as one of the safest roads in the nation according to Florida Highway Patrol. Various measures have been put in place over the last several years to help ensure the safety of you and your loved ones on the Turnpike.
Safety measures include the placement of median barriers, water cable barriers and electronic message signs which inform drivers of road conditions ahead. Additionally, the Turnpike has personnel and programs in place such as Turnpike dedicated Florida Highway Patrol Troop K and State Farm Safety Patrol to monitor and assist motorists.
Combined, these efforts help to effectively decrease the likelihood of a crash resulting in a fatality. In fact, recent statistics from the Florida Highway Patrol show the number of fatal crashes on the Turnpike has continued to decrease, and recently reached an all time low. In 2008, there were 39 fatalities on the Turnpike, down from 69 reported in 2007.
Ultimately, a safe drive is in your hands. Here are a few reminders when traveling:
- Obey posted speed limits
- Always wear your safety belt
- Prevent tire failure by monitoring your tire pressure (air is available free of charge at any Turnpike service station)
- Avoid driving when fatigued
With your help, we can keep the Turnpike one of the safest roads in America. |
