SunPass customers continue to enjoy the ease and convenience of using SunPass in the 95 Express lanes in South Florida. In December 2008, the first phase of the express lanes opened on northbound I-95 from SR 112/I-95 to just north of 151st street. In the first 3 months of operation, the average weekday traffic volume in the facility has grown steadily to 24,000 daily trips.
Bypass I-95 traffic
The Express lanes are tolled, based on a congestion pricing method. This means the toll varies during the day, using the toll rate to manage traffic flow. When traffic in the Express lanes is more congested, the toll rate is higher, likewise the rate decreases when traffic is less congested. The average toll during a typical peak time (4-7pm) in the month of March was $1.90 with the range between $0.25 to $3.75; the average toll during off peak times was $0.47. For safety, as well as ease of travel, ramp signaling is used at the northbound I-95 corridor, which aides motorists entering and exiting the lanes. For more information on ramp signaling go to www.sunguide.org/rampsignaling.jsp.
