Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise Opens New Minneola Interchange

The City of Minneola, Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise and Lake County officials celebrated the Grand Opening of the Florida’s Turnpike Minneola Interchange on June 10, 2017. The Grand Opening Ceremony included a 5K Fun Run, honoring the memory of Christa Deason, a long-time Turnpike employee who was instrumental in bringing the project to fruition. The Fun Run was a once in a lifetime event with historical significance, where close to 300 runners and walkers were able to race on the Turnpike bridge before it opened up to traffic.
Following the race, city, state and Turnpike officials, along with other dignitaries, were on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony, hosted by the Minneola City Council and staff. Mayor Pat Kelley presided over the festivities. Customer service representatives from SunPass were also on-site opening new SunPass accounts for Grand Opening attendees.
This new all-electronic interchange at Milepost 278 connects to Hancock Road and will provide customers’ access to the northbound and southbound Turnpike. It is anticipated that this project will improve traveler safety, offer traffic congestion relief for sections of State Road 50 and US 27, and increase area economic opportunities.
Turnpike Executive Director Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti said: “The Turnpike’s newest interchange at Minneola is a prime example of what can happen when state and local governments join forces for a common goal. We are confident that the Turnpike interchange at Minneola will be a win-win for the City of Minneola and Turnpike customers alike.”
