Projects
Florida's Turnpike Enterprise is underway with its first conversion to All-Electronic Open Road Tolling in Miami-Dade County. In February of 2011, the Turnpike anticipates flipping the switch to all-electronic tolling by shutting down all the cash toll collection operations and collecting tolls electronically through either SunPass or Toll-by-Plate.
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY: Two construction projects are underway to remove the cash toll collection toll booths and replace them with overhead gantries for electronic toll collection. Work includes demolition of the existing toll plaza structures, milling, resurfacing and restriping in the ramp areas, construction of gantry structures, and installation of electronic toll collection equipment. The interchanges affected by the construction include: Campbell Drive (Exit 2); Biscayne Drive (Exit 5); Allapattah Road (Exit 9); Coral Reef Drive (Exit 16); SW 120th Street (Exit 19); Kendall Drive/SW 88th Street (Exit 20); Bird Road/SW 40th Street (Exit 23); and Tamiami Trail/SW 8th Street/US 41 (Exit 25). Mainline Barrier Toll Plazas affected by the project include Homestead Plaza (Milepost 10) and Bird Road Toll Plazas (Milepost 22). The project is scheduled for completion in the winter of 2010/2011. Project cost: $43.1 million.
