In April 2013, the project to widen the Veterans Expressway (Toll 589) in the Tampa Bay area began. The project includes conversion of the entire 15-mile highway in Hillsborough County to all-electronic, no cash tolling in Spring 2014.  Click here for the proposed conversion schedule.

The I-4 Connector, the Turnpike's latest expansion project, opened on January 6, 2014 as an all-electronic facility.  The Connector is a series of ramps that connect Interstate 4 with the Selmon Expressway west of 31st Street in Tampa.  This elevated roadway links these two major east-west corridors, relieving congestion at the Downtown Interchange by diverting traffic off Interstates 4 and 275 in the Historic Ybor City area.
