THE SAWGRASS EXPRESSWAY

Project Scope

The Sawgrass Expressway will be widened from four to six lanes (three lanes in each direction) from Atlantic Boulevard to the Florida’s Turnpike interchange.  The new lanes will be constructed in the existing roadway median. Also, sound barrier walls will be installed along residential areas.

In addition to the roadway widening work and sound walls, improvements include:

• Installation of fiber-optic conduit, electronic message signs and cameras as part of the Turnpike’s intelligent transportation systems (ITS) initiative

• Ramp modifications at the University Drive and Lyons Road interchanges

• New median guardrail

• New lighting, signage and pavement markings

• Landscaping

• Canal restoration
